March
2005, MIDDLE EAST:
"Their work has always remained
at the highest level of
professional competency," wrote a high ranking official
with the 46th Corps Support Group of the US Department of Defense
(DOD) in a letter of appreciation concerning EIC's work at two
military bases in the Middle East.
In
fall of 2004, the US Army
Contracting Agency (ACA) retained EIC to conduct hazardous waste assessment and remediation at confidential
bases. The bases comprise of several former and current defense
installations including an Airfield, a missile factory, a
single-cell protein plant, military camp, and other
installations. Within one week after the contract was awarded,
EIC mobilized its crew and materials to an interim staging
location in the Middle East.
Two weeks later, EIC mobilized a 7-member HAZWOPER-trained field
crew to the base to conduct a reconnaissance survey of several
buildings used to store hazardous materials. The survey and
some of the remediation tasks were conducted using "Level B"
personal protection equipment (PPE) consisting of chemical suits
and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). In addition, EIC
evaluated other areas comprised of above-ground petroleum
storage containers, underground storage tank locations, bunkers,
laboratory, and various acidic waste tanks. Another high
ranking official with the US 1st Cavalry Division commended EIC
for completing work in record time and well under
budget at over eight areas of concern (AOCs) The savings in budget were utilized to
conduct additional out-of-scope tasks.
