BP, a division of British Petroleum, retained EIC to
conduct a Confined Space Entry Training program for
its employees based in Dubai and Sharjah, United Arab
Emirates. In January 2001, EIC successfully trained
over 30 field and management personnel in confined
space entry procedures. The Confined Space Entry Training
Program developed by EIC, provides an overall understanding
of the confined space entry requirements. First, the
basics of confined space were introduced. Next, methods
for recognizing the hazards of confined space and hazard
control processes were discussed. The course then followed
a step-by-step process of selecting personal protection
equipment (PPE), atmospheric testing, sampling and
testing strategies. Also, methods of preparation for
entry into confined spaces were reviewed. Finally,
the program focused on various methods of rescuing
workers from confined spaces. A brief discussion of
other hazards of entry into CS was also introduced.
Based upon the success of the training program, Air
BP extended the training program to other countries
in the Middle East. In April and May 2001, EIC trained
management and field personnel in Lebanon and Republic
of Yemen in confined space entry. |
